Our Story

Posted by Roberta Greenspan

"No sugar added", "Vitamin-fortified water", "Made with real fruit juice", "Only 10 calories" - it's a myriad of marketing messages out there when it comes to kid's beverages, especially when the manufacturers are trying to appeal to parents who are the actual shoppers. Because I've been in the beverage business for a few years now, I frequently get drawn into conversations about this topic at friend and family gatherings. I know - it's not incredibly exciting party conversation!

Recently I was at a trade show and saw a new kid's drink being marketed as an "organic water beverage". Wow.... I didn't know you could make organic water! So I asked the manufacturer about this.  Here is how our conversation went:

Me: Hmmm......what makes the water organic?

Them: (long pause) Well, maybe it's because the juice in the water drink is organic.

Me: So don't you think you should call it an organic juice beverage?

And so I thought... someone has to set the record straight and help parents get beyond the marketing hype. Someone needs to tell the truth about what's really in the drinks we're buying for our children.  And now I'm excited to share this new website with you.

We promise to try our best to give you objective and simple facts about a multitude of kid's drinks so you can make an educated decision on whether it's right for your child. We tell you the ingredients list (along with explanations of what those ingredients really are), the quantity and source of sugar in the drink, calorie counts, vitamin content, and packaging recycling info. And for each drink, we also list the number of calories and pounds of sugar your child would consume if he/she drank just 3 per week each week for a year. Some of the figures are pretty astounding!

I hope you find this website helpful (and a little fun too!). If you want to read more about me and how I got started in the beverage business, please click here to read my story.
